ATTENTION! The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has released PRODUCT RECALLS for specific swimming pool "Drain Covers".
Pool owners and operators who have one of the recalled drain covers listed in the CPSC press release should contact the manufacturer to receive a replacement or retrofit.
The CPSC recommends closing the pool until the drain cover is replaced. This recall applies to dual main drain and gravity drainage systems, unless they are wading pools or in-ground spas. Note: Wading pools and in-ground spas do not need to be immediately closed.
For more information, contact the Drain Cover Recall Hotline at 866-478-3521.
The Virginia Graeme Baker Pool and Spa Safety Act, named for the Granddaughter of former Secretary of State James Baker. In 2002, at the age of seven, Virginia Graeme Baker died in a tragic spa accident after the powerful suction of a drain entrapped her underwater. This bill passed to ensure that every pool and spa is safe for all ages to enjoy. The Virginia Graeme Baker Pool and Spa Safety Act calls for mandatory compliance in all pools and spas, to prevent suction entrapment.
