about us

WMS Aquatics is both a design build contractor and equipment supplier for the Commercial Swim Pool industry, serving customers across the United States since 1972. Our swimming pool products catalog contains a complete line of deck, mechanical, recreation, and competitive equipment for the public or private recreational swimming and waterpark facilities. We are committed to providing our clients nationwide with cost-efficient, high-quality aquatic products that satisfy their unique needs in an environmentally friendly manner at a 100% customer satisfaction rate.

Providing more than just catalog sales and service, we utilize our extensive knowledge and experience in a consulting role to help plan and facilitate the construction of pools for cities, colleges/universities, school districts, and athletic clubs throughout the United States.

As a full-service consulting company, WMS Aquatics works closely with planners, architects, engineers, and construction firms in the supervision of aquatics facility construction and pool rehabilitation projects in the Pacific Northwest. State-of-art Myrtha technology is utilized to reduce pool construction time and provide customers with cutting-edge installations. In each project we assist customers to ensure that their project goals are achieved by providing the best choices to fit the available budget.

History of the Company

William M. Smith and his wife Florence started the firm as W.M. Smith & Associates, Inc. with a single product line, Stranco, in the family room of their home.  The year was 1972 and they developed the company based on their 18 years of professional experience in the aquatics industry.

Years later, their son Wayne, who had worked with his father since 1978, purchased the company that his father had built on a foundation of commitment to the needs of its customers.  Wayne and his wife Georganne have further developed and expanded WMS' commercial aquatics equipment catalog throughout their 30+ years of experience in working with facility owners and aquatic managers.

To stay on top of trends and innovations in the aquatics industry, WMS Aquatics is a member of several national professional organizations related to aquatics. These include the World Waterpark Association, the National Swimming Pool Foundation, and the National Park and Recreation Association.

WMS Aquatics is also a registered Government Services Administration contract holder (Contract #GS-07F-5990R). We assist our customers to ensure that their facilities are fully compliant with all current local, state and federal safety regulations for their aquatic facility, including the Virginia Graeme Baker Act.

Encouraging Green and Environmentally Friendly Aquatic Facilities

WMS Aquatics has been at the forefront of promoting the use of environmentally friendly solutions for aquatics facilities. These solutions include a range of green products, including salt chlorinators, ultraviolet disinfection systems, and efficient pool heaters. We are continually searching for additional products and solutions to help our customers "go green". We support efforts to protect our environment by providing cost-effective and eco-friendly solutions, as well as the knowledge and expertise to achieve the aquatic facility's environmental goals.

We are committed to promoting environmentally responsible practices in our own office policies as well. We do not practice greenwashing, but follow simple policies, like purchasing Energy Star-rated light bulbs, printing on both sides of copy paper and keeping staff travel to a minimum help us to keep costs down and pass the savings on to our customers. To see more of our environmental policies, please visit "Going Green" on our website.

Giving Back to Our Community

WMS Aquatics is committed to serving the local community.  One important role has been to extend our interest in water, helping where we can to bring about a worldwide solution to the necessity of all people to have access to clean water. We do this through our support of the local chapter of Women of Vision, a volunteer arm of World Vision, a humanitarian organization dedicated to working with children, families, and communities worldwide. WMS is a Gold sponsor and active in hosting the 2011 special event, "Power of Art-hope in a world of injustice" in Ellensburg, WA, for the purpose of raising funds for clean water, sanitation, and health projects in Zambia. Visit http://www.wovpowerofart.com  if you would like to contribute or learn more.

We also support the efforts of charitable organizations such as, Friends in Service to Humanity, YMCA, Young Life and the Special Olympics. Locally in the Yakima Valley, we sponsor various Aquatic Club activities and scholarships through the Yakima YMCA.

Continuing Education for Customers

Each year WMS Aquatics offers its customers the opportunity to enroll in its Northwest Aquatic Facility Operator Certification Course. Held at Suncadia in Central Washington, this two-day seminar for aquatics professionals covers many considerations for ensuring a healthy aquatic facility. Topics covered include mechanical rooms, pool and spa chemistry, plant maintenance and operations, chemical safety, energy considerations, and more. We organize this course each year as a part of our commitment to total customer service and to empower our customers through continual learning.
